Additional historical, cultural and touristic data

The area of the municipality of Souli, with Paramythia as capital is one of the best destinations for those who enjoy alternative tourism. The city of Paramythia still has some traces of traditional culture in it, along with its market and old buildings that are scattered in the modern city. The clock tower of Paramythia, which has a rare working mechanism that is based on ropes, is a significant site and so is the famous Koulia, a fortified house situated in the city that was renovated by the archaeological service. The ancient castle of St Donatos is situated on the steep slopes of Mt Gkorila. A path that starts from the centre of the city leads to it.

Important sites of the area are the ruins of the ancient city of Elaia. The city, which dates back to the 4h century, was the first place where the community of the residents of Thesprotia was seated. It was a fortified city that had its own currency, which had "ELAION" or "ELATAN" inscribed on it.
