#135 Bridge of Agia Eleni

The village Pogoniani, in place Aghia Eleni, is the namesake bridge. Surrounded by dense nature of the area, the traditional stone-bridge was built in 1895 as part of the road that connects Pogoniani with Hani Delvinakiou. The unique bow of the building bridges to a narrowing of the river Drin. The craftsmen who undertook the construction project are not known, but the implementation has been integrated into the extensive road and bridge construction program that was drawn up by the Ottoman state.

The bridge, despite the dense nature that surrounds it, is maintained in good condition.

Construction characteristics

In the village Pogoniani is located the traditional viaduct, part of a later construction program which dates back to the end of 19th century.

The small bridge suffered significant damage as time has changed considerably its form. Although, in the one-arch bridge are still visible in the well-made stone ledge of the bridge, while the rest consists of dry stone walls, which now gives the impression of a total lack of grout.
